More Fruits, Vegetables Needed In Americans' Diets
(Undated) -- The CDC says the diets of Americans sorely lack fruits and vegetables. In its "Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report" due out today, it's noted that only 32-and-a-half percent of adults ate fruit two or more times a day in 2009. In addition, only 26-point-three percent ate vegetables three or more times on a daily basis. The CDC's report noted the findings highlight the need to improve fruit and vegetable access, availability and affordability to increase consumption. It said a diet rich in both can reduce the risk for many leading causes of death. The Healthy People 2010 objectives established by the CDC include getting 75 percent of people age two and over to eat two or more servings of fruit and 50 percent to eat three or more servings of vegetables daily. |
