FDA Sends Warning Letter To E-Cigarette Makers
(Chicago, IL) -- The Food and Drug Administration is taking another stab at efforts to regulate electronic cigarettes. The FDA announced Thursday that it had sent warning letters to five e-cigarette makers telling them to stop marketing the devices as smoking-cessation aids. At a news briefing, a spokesperson for the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research said the e-cigarette makers were warned for poor manufacturing practices and for making unsubstantiated claims that their products can cure nicotine addiction. Some companies were also targeted because they sell liquid versions of certain medication to be used in the e-cigarette vaporizers. Companies have another two weeks to respond to the FDA letter. |
