College Freshmen Susceptible To Weight Gain
(Cleveland, OH) -- College freshmen across the U.S. are making the transition from living at home to life on campus this week. But along with the excitement of beginning college life, there's a downside many freshmen encounter known in dietitian circles as "the freshman 15." Nutrition experts say freshmen are very susceptible to packing on as much as 15 pounds due to less regimented lifestyles and unhealthier eating habits. Cleveland Clinic dietitian Elizabeth Penniman says another primary cause for extra pounds during the freshman year is lack of exercise. Penniman says in order for college freshmen to curb weight gain, they should walk to class, maintain physical activity and make wise food selections in campus cafeterias. |
