Study: Not Enough Sleep Can Be Bad For Teens' Diet
(Chicago, IL) -- New information shows teenagers who get less than eight hours of sleep on weeknights tend to eat more snacks and fatty foods. Researchers made the discovery when they compared teens who slept less than the recommended amount with those who slept eight or more hours a night. They also found not getting enough sleep could make the changes in diet permanent, increasing the risk of obesity especially in girls. Previous studies have shown a lack of sleep can lead to weight gain, but now researchers say they know where the extra calories are coming from. The study is published in the journal "Sleep." |
