Flu Shots Urged As Condition For Employment For Health Care Workers
(Undated) -- The Society for Healthcare Epidemiology is out with new guidelines that call for making flu vaccinations for healthcare professionals a condition of employment. Society President Dr. Neil Fishman says flu shots are a core patient and health care worker safety practice. He says the percentage of health care personnel who get an annual flu shot, currently at 40 percent, is disappointing. Fishman says the influenza infection control program must be clearly communicated to all existing and applicant healthcare workers. The society's recommendations apply to all healthcare personnel working in all healthcare settings, regardless of whether the worker has direct patient contact. |
