Attorney Says Salmonella Egg Case Could Cost Industry $300 Million
(Undated) -- Food and Drug Administration inspectors have found rodents, flies and manure piles at two egg-producing plants linked to a nationwide salmonella outbreak. Seattle-based personal injury lawyer Bill Marler, who specializes in food borne-illnesses, calls it one of the worst inspection reports he's ever seen. Nearly 15-hundred cases of salmonella linked to eggs from the farms have been reported since May. Marler estimates the costs involved in the massive egg recall and the potential for personal injury claims could soar to 300-million-dollars. Along with holding egg producers responsible, Marler says retailers who sold the tainted product to consumers are also at fault for failing to check on farming operations.
