Experimental Test Accurately Detects Ovarian Cancer
(Washington, DC) -- An experimental test for ovarian cancer has shown great success. Researchers say the test, which uses antibodies to detect tumor cells in the blood, correctly detected ovarian cancer in 16 of 17 women who had the disease. Researchers claim it also produced no false positives, meaning healthy women were never diagnosed as having ovarian cancer. The test was developed by the Belgian company MabCure. It could be a breakthrough because ovarian cancer symptoms are vague and often missed. If detected early, ovarian cancer can be cured but in more than 70-percent of women, diagnosis only comes after the disease has become advanced.
