White House Hopeful Healthcare Can Be Finished March 18th
(Washington, DC) -- The White House still hopes healthcare reform can be put to a final vote in Congress before March 18th. That's when President Obama departs on a trip to Indonesia and Australia. Congressional Democratic leaders have warned that a March 18th timetable for final passage may not be possible. Presidential spokesman Robert Gibbs said March 18th remains a goal, not a recommended deadline. Gibbs said the White House has no plans to possibly delay Obama's overseas trip, depending on where things stand with healthcare. This week, the President has turned up the heat on Congress and health insurance companies, accusing insurers of putting profits before people. Gibbs said soaring premiums cannot be justified relative to the profits of the big health insurance companies. |
