Award-Winning Florida Photographer To Visit Prendergast |
| |
The Prendergast Library Art Gallery will feature photography by Jamie Quick in an exhibit called Focal Point from June 25 through July 30.
A Florida resident with ties to Jamestown, Ms. Quick said, I look forward to sharing my work, my joy, with you.
I first came to Jamestown to summer with my mother-in-law Lois Lofgren Quick, who is from Jamestown, and she introduced me to the beauty, the history and the culture of Jamestown and its people, she said.
According to the photographer, Most of my work is done in natural lighting, in the sheer beauty and simplicity of all that surrounds us, i.e. flowers, landscapes and architecture.
Ms. Quick said she is mostly self-taught, although she has been interested in photography since she was a child.
My enthusiasm grew after I experienced great loss in my life. Three years ago my husband Don bought me a new camera and told me to go take pictures, and I have been doing that ever since! I have found my work to be of great solace to me, and it has continued to have a grounding effect on my well being, she said.
Ms. Quick was recently chosen as one of 40 women from all over Florida to participate in a mixed media exhibit called Through Women s Eyes, By Women s Hands at the A.E. Backus gallery and museum. One of her pieces was selected for an event called Art in Bloom, and one of her photos placed first in the Flora division during a group exhibit at the Vero Beach Museum of Art.
At Prendergast Library, there will be an opening reception from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 25, to meet the photographer and discuss her most recent work.
The pictures some manipulated, some not are from various locations, some of which I hope will be familiar to Jamestown residents, she said.
Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesdays; and 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturdays.
The next library exhibitor will be Wallace Berger, who creates two- and three-dimensional art out of wood and sometimes incorporates rocks, branches and shells into his designs.
Prendergast Library is located at 509 Cherry St., Jamestown. For more information, call 484-7135, Ext. 225.
