Prendergast Library Book Sale Starts Friday |
| |
The James Prendergast Library in Jamestown will kick off its 31st annual book sale at 11 a.m. Friday, June 11. The sale continues until 9 p.m. Friday and runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 12.
There's an incredible selection available at very reasonable prices, said Library Director Catherine Way.
Regular library services are suspended during the sale, and library furniture is rearranged to make room for the display of sale items.
The entire main floor is dedicated to sale books sorted by subject such as sports, health, business, travel and humor. Hard covers and paperbacks are available.
Non-book items such as videos, DVDs, CDs, audio cassettes and sheet music are displayed in the art gallery upstairs.
The Special Room to the left of the library s entrance offers collector's items, rare books, sets and books in excellent condition. Those items are individually marked.
General prices have not been raised for years, and many items can be purchased for $1 or less. A complete book sale price schedule is available at www.prendergastlibrary.org.
During the traditional bag sale from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, bargain hunters can fill a grocery bag with books for $5.
That's a very popular event, Ms. Way said.
She said the Prendergast book sale is the largest in the Southern Tier and traditionally offers customers more than 40,000 books.
We have books on just about every subject that can be imagined, she said.
The sale also draws buyers from all over the country.
I expect a long line to be waiting for the doors to open Friday morning, Ms. Way said.
Proceeds from the sale are used to buy new books and other library materials.
At 10 a.m. Monday, June 14, regular library services will resume, and the library will begin accepting donations for its 2011 sale.
