US CENSUS FORMS ARE IN YOUR MAIL BOX
It is very likely that you have received or will be receiving shortly the US Census. We urge you to fill out the form and inform your employees of the importance of the US Census. When you receive yours, just answer the 10 short questions and then mail the form back in the postage-paid envelope provided. The information affects the numbers of seats our state occupies in the U.S. House of Representatives. People from many walks of life use census data to advocate for causes, prevent diseases, research markets, locate pools of skilled workers and more.
When you do the math, it's easy to see what an accurate count of residents can do for our community. Better infrastructure. More services. A brighter tomorrow for everyone. In fact, the information the census collects helps to determine how more than $400 billion dollars of federal funding each year is spent on infrastructure and services.
Participation in the Census isn't just important—it's the responsibility of every American.
IT IS ROCKET SCIENCE!
LET THE CHAMBER HELP PUT NASA TECHNOLOGY TO WORK
FOR YOU THROUGH SATOP
Imagine a rocket scientist offering free aid and space age resources to a small business in Chautauqua County experiencing technical problems. This is the purpose of the Space Alliance Technology Outreach Program (SATOP), a NASA funded program designed to provide engineering assistance and speed the transfer of space technology to the private sector.
The Chautauqua County Chamber of Commerce and Manufacturers Association partners with SATOP to bring the program to Chautauqua County so the private sector may benefit from the technology of the space program.
The program provides up to 40 hours of free engineering assistance to companies facing technical challenges. The program is intended to help solve technology challenges which cannot be resolved by a company’s own internal resources, or by commercially available services. Areas of expertise include, but are not limited to, mechanical, manufacturing, industrial, materials, structural, facilities, chemical, electrical, electronics, and environmental engineering.
SATOP allows small businesses and inventors to access the technical resources of the US Space Program, as well as aerospace contractors, NASA field centers, universities and colleges. These organizations joined to form a Space Alliance from which professionals contribute their time and expertise in solving the challenges faced by businesses.
“This innovative program is an economic development tool our local businesses can use to address technology problems or challenges that when solved, may actually increase their business or lower their cost of doing business,” said Guy Ditonto, Member Services Manager for the Chamber.
Any business with 500 or fewer employees that is facing a technical or production challenge may complete a short Request for Technical Assistance (RTA). SATOP will review the request to see whether it could be solved through commercial means or would be best addressed by Space Alliance engineers. Issues that can be solved commercially will be sent back with suggestions for solutions.
In order for SATOP to accept a request, the problem must be achievable within 40 hours engineering time. The request must focus on a specific issue and should be something that is outside the scope of normal commercial services. When the RTA is received, a SATOP project engineer will be appointed to act as a liaison between the business and the Space Alliance engineers.
