The words “I do” are perhaps the most important part of the wedding ceremony, but there is a lot more to the ceremony than just that. It maybe something you have never considered, but there are different types of wedding ceremonies you can choose from for your wedding. What type of ceremony is right for you all depends on who you are. If you have never considered the different types of ceremonies that are available to you, consider the following:
The religious wedding is perhaps the most popular or most common. This is the type of ceremony that needs the least amount of explanation because it is so common. But just incase, a religious wedding is performed by a priest, usually from a church to which one of the wedding couple belongs. It usually takes place in a church, although it can be held elsewhere, and the main theme of the ceremony is religious in nature.
The second most common type of wedding ceremony is the civil wedding. A civil wedding ceremony is performed by a justice of the peace, usually an official like a judge. A civil ceremony follows a very similar pattern to a religious ceremony except that there is no reference to any religious doctrine. A civil wedding is a great choice for couples who don’t belong to a church or for couples of mixed faith.
A third wedding ceremony type is known as the non-traditional wedding ceremony. With this type of ceremony, the sky is literally the limit. A non-traditional ceremony can be anything you want. The only this you require is an official who has the legal authority to marry you. It is this type of ceremony that allows the wedding couple to really design and create the ceremony to be exactly what they want. It could be religious or religion free, it could be causal or formal. It all depends on what he couple wants.
If one of the wedding couple is or has been a member of the military, a military wedding ceremony is an option. Depending on the military status, the couple may be able to receive a full military wedding ceremony. This usually takes place at a military chapel but can be held in other venues as well.
Who you are will definitely be a factor in what wedding ceremony you choose. But be aware you do have choices. It’s your wedding; it can be anything you want.
