Sesame Street Live!

Mark your calendar and join Elmo, The Count, Bert and Ernie, Cookie Monster, Big Bird, and all their funny and furry friends when they take to the stage at Chautauqua Institution. “Sesame Street Live!” will share the magical world of music with children on Wednesday, July 1 at 7:30 p.m. on the Amphitheater stage.

Like television’s “Sesame Street,” each “Sesame Street Live!” production features timeless lessons for all ages. Through the razzle-dazzle of this Broadway-quality musical production, children learn about patience, acceptance and teamwork. The universal appeal of this production continues long after preschool. Adults will appreciate the high-tech stagecraft, cleverly written scripts, and music they’ll recognize and enjoy sharing with children.

All the favorite “Sesame Street” characters will be presenting two 25-minute live segments with a video in between. The first segment, “Imagine with Sesame Street,” will invite audience members to imagine with Elmo, Zoe, and their friends. Using their imaginations, they will explore different places all over the world through postcards they have received. Participants can pretend to be a dog with Zoe and go on a surfing safari with Cookie Monster among many other fun adventures.

The second segment, “We’re Here for You,” will show children that Elmo understands what it is like to have a not-so-sunny day. Elmo and his friends will share ways they have learned to feel better, such as singing songs, writing letters, and sharing feelings in any language. There will also be a special appearance and sing-along with Bob McGrath, who plays longtime character “Bob” in the series.

Sesame Street workshop is celebrating its fortieth anniversary with this partnership with Chautauqua Institution for week one of the season, themed “kids!” The workshop is the nonprofit educational organization that changed television forever with the legendary series. As the single largest informal educator of young children, local “Sesame Street” programs produced in countries as diverse as South Africa, Bangladesh and India are making a difference in more than 120 nations.

Chautauqua Institution is excited to bring “Sesame Street Live!” to the Amphitheater stage on Wednesday, July 1 for a 7:30 p.m. show. Tickets are $36 and can be purchased at the Chautauqua Box Office in the Turner Community Center on Route 394. They may also be ordered by phone at (716) 357-6250 or on the Web at www.tickets.ciweb.org.
